How Community Health Network uses analytics to optimize its clinical decision support

Supporting hospital decisions can be a complex issue. It is also managed by a Community Health Network for many years. The Community Health Network IT team, which meets monthly and includes doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and commentators, has been reviewing the CDS as one of their target areas for quality improvement.

While CDS is only part of a group’s charter, its scope is about broad decision-making support: some reporters focus on process planning, others focus on medical warnings, some focus on warnings for patients, and some focus on car training.

Improving CDS standards in this way requires data management to have policies and procedures in place to reconfigure or disable levels.

The Community Health Network is in the final stages of integrating FDB CDS Analytics with your EHR and other systems. You have several goals that you want to achieve with the analysis.

First, you want to improve your supplier’s experience with the EHR and streamline supplier workflows. The aim is to ensure that importers receive the necessary decision support at the right time in their work process, but are not informed.

“The second goal is to get the best results for our patients through CDS,” McGill said. “For example, we need advertisements to promote appropriate care at the best possible time, fill gaps in care, and help hospitals adhere to best practice standards.

The third objective is to ensure adequate care while reducing unnecessary tests and services and lowering the costs of care. Community Health Network participates in many value-based reimbursement programs with Medicare and commercial payers, so it is always looking for ways to provide the best care more efficiently and cost-effectively.

“Achieving these three goals requires data that shows how clinical decision support works and how it is used by providers,” said McGill.

The scan tool will significantly help the health system with education and interventions, he said. The health system will be able to contact providers with data to save warnings they might ignore and the reasons the team recommends providers take action, he said.


“Healthcare organizations considering implementing analytical technology for CDS assessment should first establish a data governance structure,” McGill advised. “While it is not necessary to develop this system as a Community Health Network, which we have been developing for many years, health care providers must have a minimum.

“This framework should help everyone involved to understand and accept the objectives of the CDS screening process,” he continued. “It is also important that you establish guidelines for how data will be analyzed, as well as how decisions will be made regarding its outcome.”
